I just rented season 1 of the west wing and watched all 22 episodes in about 5 days - got toally addicted, love that show, so well written

anyway, I guess it doesnt rest the ears but changes the focus to watch somethign decent on telly - I like peace but silence is hard to handle so I rarely sit in total silence

Hikes are wonderful. Or even just a walk around a city block if you can't get out too far... Take a portable recorder with ya.

Most times I end up online or playing GTA IV (I need to stop), but what works best for me is getting out the house and hearing life... Sounds cheesy, but sometimes hearing chaos is inspiring.

Otherwise sex is a great too! There's all kind of sounds made during that activity that can be inspiring too...

Talking on a cell phone can help put things in perspective, since the sound quality is damn shitty most times, but it could be my provider (can you hear me now? Good!).

Sit in a dark room with just a candle lit, and focus on your breathing. It can get quite trippy after a while...!

Other than that, you could always get out for a walk... fresh air and excercise are your friend when it comes to keeping a clear, tidy mind!

If you want to give your ears a break:

1.) Avoid my wife.

2.) Lie in a censory depravation tank.

3.) Donate your auditory sytem to medical science (NB: This is more a permenant fixture and should only be used if you make tarcne or belong to the band Scooter)

Read
Play a video game (Race Driver: GRID is pretty good for a quick race or two - it has destruction derby!)
Drink Tea and/or Coffee
Do something visual (i'm into this program called Processing - you could then use it for live visuals during a gig)

if you can, swim

not in a pool for of 8 year olds shouting and pissing into the water,

but at a beach, just something refreshing like that can really help, or a bath would work.

i like to read, but nothing gear-porn related, i just like to get away from music altogether

i always go for a walk, maybe go to friends house and talk about how F'd our political system is. Try to stir up some emotions and get myself hyped to make more music.
