I'm currently in the process of building a new set from the ground up. Instead of trying to get my songs in the set, I want a set that I can get songs out off.
Everything that is done to make this set will be documented.

What a great idea. I'm sure there are many of us that throw our hands up in defeat when trying to reverse engineer our already produced tracks into live sets. And keeping things basic is a great idea too.

hey, i like the picture of Henke doing his barbecue/picnic set on your
webpage, hoffman.

Where was this ? Was it Montreal ?

I would love to hang out with some friends in the park while Henke is performing his Layering Buddha set.

I start a new live set with a dummy project complete with
the folder structure of the Library so that I can easily
export or save to the Library. It also has tuning loops
for calibrating sampler/simpler presets.

I see you use the exact same amount of clips as Justice does for their live shows.

Wonder why they never added keyboard or midi assigning to the solo mutes of impulse or even drum rack for that matter?

Interesting project, I'm currently working on my own concept of the Live set; it looks really similar to yours, but I aim to assign three knobs of the BCR2000 to each sound (at least to some of them). Right now I'm thinking about how to combine different patterns and sounds and try to maintain those three knobs for shaping each sound (multiple assignments of the same controller to multiple synths?).
For midi parts muting outside drum racks, I'm simply using a stop clip.

I will surely follow your project and try to give my suggestions (if any).

Are they a Nihilistic group?

This empty project can only put out two sine waves.

It is the file structure that I was attempting to show.

I know this thread is about making audio projects and I don't want to usurp it,
but it also addresses the building of Live Sets, in themselves, so there is one
issue I want to make and then I'll drop out.

You need to reflect the Library structure or you can't export or manage your
presets very well.

I have 14,578 presets, mostly simpler or sampler, some in instrument racks some
alone.

The Ableton Library structure is not suited for a large library at all.

It is almost impossible for me to find anything I made a few months ago.

Why should I have to remember if it is a Simpler or Sampler or and Instrument
Rack if I can barely remember the name I gave it.

And I can't search for metadata like the info text because that isn't supported.

We need something like the way Kore handles searching for sounds. I had Dr. T's
software for the Atari and it had better sound searching capabilities than Live.

There no reason why the Library has to have instrument-oriented structure it has
now. Why not put all Basses under a single Bass?

I posted suggestions about this in the wishlist forum and I'll mention it again
here then I'll go away.

I don't think it's good to recall presets from the library during a long live set.
I prefer to switch sounds with a macro within a rack.

I am totally NOT using the library to find presets I have made or used in past sets. The library is the big amount of live packs either from ableton company or the covops or trackteam or all this stuff that I downloaded from the web. I use to go there hunting sounds. sometimes I find something nice. In order to find stuff I made myself or stuff that I once had discovered in this huge mess of presets I import a clip from the corresponding liveset. For me it's way much easier to remember the name of a liveset, and to remember that I used this or that instrument/effect with it, than to remember where that preset is saved in the library. I unfold the liveset and import a clip from the corresponding channel into the blank space of my new set. Done.

I have made various attempts to fill a folder with my "favourite presets" (one for instrument racks, one for audio effect racks), but I do not use it that much. I always go back to sets from the past in order to find stuff.
