Which budget monitors did you buy?
Which budget monitors did you buy?
And why? What size did you get?
I'm having trouble deciding which to get. And size. Sub or no sub?

Alesis M1 actives, no sub. Unless you have good mains monitors and a decent room for it, subs usually cause more issues than they fix IMO.

Adam A7. I chose between them, Genelec 8030 and a couple of KRKs that I can't recall the version of, and even though Adam A7 lacks in bass compared to the others it certainly makes up for that in the higher frequencies. They simply sound amazing.
Mac, Live, Logic, Cubase, Reason, Renoise and a bunch of VSTs

Event PS-8, good mid priced moniters. No need for a sub and won't make your ears or wallet bleed(I believe they are now called TR-8's.)
Find your local Guitar Center, Sam Ash, or whatever and bring a couple cd's of your favorite artists and some recordings of your own and listen, listen, listen...........

TR8-N's yep. I wish the power switch was in the front though.suburbanbather wrote:Event PS-8, good mid priced moniters. No need for a sub and won't make your ears or wallet bleed(I believe they are now called TR-8's.)

Best sub $500 pair made IMO. What you don't get in correction features, it makes up for how it is, set up properly in a properly treated room.

Yea, no acoustic foam or anything in my room. The only complaint I have about them is that they pop LOUD when i turn them off. But, once you get used to how mixes turn out in cars(with and with out subs) and other home stereos, you get used to them real quick. Awesome monitors, I've had them for over 6 or 7 years. No need to upgrade.kaffein wrote:TR8-N's yep. I wish the power switch was in the front though.suburbanbather wrote:Event PS-8, good mid priced moniters. I got Fostex PM-1. I compared them with Yamaha HSM-80M, KRKs and Events. I thought the Yamahas were too wet, the Events very bassy and the KRKs a bit bassy and muddy. On the higher end I liked the Adam A7 (though they might be a bit tiring due to their complete lack of bass and over response to the mids) and Dynaudio BM5 and BM6.
I dont know if u´d consider the Genelec 8020A budget but i recommend them. i toootally love them and they pack a grate punch for their size. I went with these because of the fact that my room is rather small.
But whats budget for u? 300€, 600€, 900€?
from 600€/700€ and up i recommend Genelecs of appropriate size.
but different ears react to different frequencys differently!!!...so go to your local store and "bang their system"
ohh and dont forget...GENELECS ARE BEST NO MATTER WHAT PPL SAY AND IF U DONT LIKE THEM THEN YOU NEED TO GET YOUR EARS CHECKED!!.....

I decided some months ago for these:
http://www.seiwin.com/stmon_pm.asp
Mine is the smaller 4a.
Don't be fooled by the 85Hz - 20Khz specs, I have found that is capable of 70Hz as the lowest freq.
Sure they lack super-basses when compared to monitors with a bigger woofer but I'm fine if I had the money I would buy pro speaker but I'm not a pro...
