If you had to limit your setup to live + 10 vsts
Which would you choose? (Effects + Instruments altogether not more than 10, and live in its basic version without operator etc.; no external gear other than midi controllers)

Limit? Man, for 90% of my music-making life that would have seemed an impossibly huge number of options. How about just 2 tape recorders and an acoustic guitar? Ok, I'm sounding like the old fart I am... why I remember, back in the old days...Grappadura wrote:Which would you choose? Still, get a decent synth and you're pretty much set to go with Live's built in tools if you want to make music. Yes, I have way more than 10 plugins, but I would still be making music even if I didn't.

Audiorealism:
ABL2
ADM
Native Instruments:
Absynth
Battery
Massive
PSP Audioware:
PSP42
Vintage Warmer 2
iZotope:
Trash
G-Force:
M-Tron
#10 would be a good reverb, but I use a KSP8 for them
I still rely on 80% hardware, so my software list isn't very broad. But whenever I do use software, those are the plugs I always make sure are around.

A bunch of gear, cords, and a computer...

What a great question. You have inspired me to clean up my insanely cluttered VST subdirectory. After using Ableton for a year I have pretty much whittled my VST usage to the following:
EastWest Gold XL-1 Symphonic Orchestra Play Edition (purchased)
NuGen Audio Visualizer (purchased)
Kjaerhaus Audio MPL-1 Mastering (purchased)
Zebra 2.2 Soft Synth (purchased)
Cygnus Space Soft Synth (free)
Analogic Delay by Echo Chamber (free)
Elottronix - Frippertronics Emulator (free)
Waterfall by Synthedit (free) (okay - I like delays!)
dBlue Glitch (free) (so fun but haven't been able to get it into a song)
I got the free ones off Gersic - which is both a wonderful and an awful site because there's just too much good stuff - I could waste weeks going through all the VST stuff they have there.
That's only 9 - I couldn't decide on one more so I'll just keep it to that. Now I have a project!

I suppose you got more than you asked for...the way I read the question, it's which 10 plugs can I not live without if I had a host like Live minus anything else...Grappadura wrote:I meant to say that lives native effects dont count. Lives basic version, but not the suite instruments. Thx for all the replies, its very interesting.
and I would have added an 11. Elephant
