UPDATE: 7.0.10 GEAR SYNC. It works. Anyone else?

Post by Silverfish » Tue Jul 22, 2008 1:41 am

I'm full of questions these days, it seems.

I've got Live 7.0.7, a 2gHz iMac C2D, an Alesis IO26, and a Korg ESX-1. Why, for the love of Pete, won't Live and the electribe sync? Live is set to master and I've futzed with the MIDI delay, latency, etc, but it just won't happen.

Any solutions? I'd like to use Live with hardware in a Live setting, however, I'm beginning to think it won't work.

How's the timing on an MPC1000? Maybe that'd make a good Master Clock for a complex live show.

Welcome to my world.

Sorry I can't help man. I can get Live to sync, but it will start to lose its timing after a while. I've tried to sync Live with an MPC 2000XL and the 4000. No luck.

Though others will tell you the sync problems are nonexistent. I'll tell you I can get both MPCs to work flawlessly with Reason, DP 5, Sonar 6, Logic Studio, and Pro Tools Le/HD.

Currently Logic is my solution to Live's sync issues.

just check one of the many threads about midi sync in the Bugs forum. Ive pretty much given up using Live as the centre of a group of drum machines, it just cannot keep consistent sync.

using all the same hardware, and a different host, all the problems disappear. its such a shame.

Well I guess that puts the "sync issues are nonexistent" comments to rest.

What's the official Ableton HQ position on this one?

Does version 6 sync any better? I'm just starting to dabble in the idea of incorporating hardware and at the same time wanting to trust 7 to work properly even without hardware.

I thought that there were issues, but they redesigned for v7....

You'll are still having trouble?

Does anybody have problems with syncing nord leads or modulars?

me..
G2 NM
but only the sequencers..
at least.. it seems more obvious with the sequencers,, they seem to jitter and Lives CPU will spike. This is also true using my Zero 8...

That blows. I think that " midi engine rewrite " was in the v7 changelog..

I am like 90% sure I remember reading that

bravo b0unce.

I posted in another thread that I had my mpc1k sync'd to Live, it was and is but over time I've definitely noticed it hiccupping every once in a while. I thought it was my loops, it's Live.

FFS this is pathetic.

back to Sonar? fuck me, the free version of Cakewalk Gold I used 10 years ago was more stable.

Okay, so it's broken. What are we going to do about it?

Here's where I draw the line in the sand: Ableton gets not a penny more from me until they have successfully solved this issue.

Anyone got an MPC1000 with upgraded pads and the jjos for sale?

ive accepted that they wont fix it.

its either something that is absolutely integral to the way that the internal timing of Live works, and would mess up the audio if they change it,

OR

the amount of people using Live as a hardware sequencer is tiny compared to the amount of produca! and dj users so its not worth them spending time fixing it. either way it sucks as I cant get any other host to replicate the flexible midi control, track routing and and session view benefits. im starting to look at things like Bidule and Usine for this Live sequencer stuff.
