What has 4+ XLR inputs, 4+ XLR outputs, and remote control?
No, it's not a riddle.
I'm looking for a device that will enable some simple routing of mic signals in a live context. Really all I need to be able to do is turn mics on and off remotely.
A laptop, a suitable audio interface and Live could obviously do it. But I don't want to introduce that sort of latency into the audio signal.
So something like an XLR patchbay (or even a suitable mixer) with "scenes" that can be recalled by MIDI would be perfect.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Robb

Not sure if you are near the mics, or if they are remote from you.
Are they wired or wireless mics?
Maybe these Hosa items:
found here:

Maybe there are some DIs that have on/off or engage switches that might work.
Maybe an XLR patchbay with normal/un-normal switches per channel?
Check the Rane website, they specialize in things like this.

Yeah, the mics will be remote - and ideally we'd like to switch all of them together. But sometimes the simplest solution is the best. I'll have a look at Rane's site though, thanks.
Fireface is an interesting option. I had wondered whether we'd be able to do something with direct monitoring on an audio interface. (I assume it would need to have a PC connected?)

Doing something software/hardware based with an RME interface and perhaps a Tranzport would be the best way to go.
The only other option would be to look into installed sound gear. Restaurants and businesses often have installed systems that can have mixers with XLR I/O that can be controlled with wireless remotes. Here's one from Allen & Heath:

The thing is though, this stuff was designed for installs, so you would have to rig something together for your own purposes.
