Ableton Meta Sound Question for CovertOps (Bjorn)..

Post by darrelldiaz » Wed Aug 20, 2008 2:44 pm

In the 3rd part of your exposé on AMS files, you wrote, "If you play around with these files, you'll find that you can get some interesting results with Simpler. But the real fun starts with Sampler.
Sampler offers you a lot of ways to abuse these files and layer them up. There are even tricks to make one waveform fade into the other to create even more complex and evolving waveforms."

Could you please elaborate?

Thanks,

DD

Sampler has a Chain Selector, just like you'll find on Audio and Instrument Racks.
This means you have a sample selector within Sampler. And since you can set up fade ranges, you can fade on sample into another.
It's even possible to automate the sample selector with the 2nd or 3rd LFO.
You could basically make a wavetable out of a selection of samples and let the LFO oscillate from one sample to another.

Is it possible to get the lfo to modulate the chain selector in realtime? While a note is playing? I can only get the sound for the modulated chain selector posision at the time when the note is triggered. And then it like stays there fixed for the entire note.

I get som really interesting results using this technique with an arpeggiator tho.

Unfortunately this only works for sample selection when a note is played. Not during. Retrigger mode must be disabled in order to hear the effect.

Oh, I see... nice technique none the less.
