A friendly reminder....
This is a forum about music,
about music software,
and about related topics.
This is a place which is mostly unmoderated,
since we assume you are old enough to communicate
in an appropriate way. However, some of you seem to
think that being cool is based on insulting others.
It is not.
It does not matter, if you have one post or 5000+, if
you want to post here and be part of this mostly nice
and helpful community you have to respect a minimal
set of rules, as stated here:
http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=34944
Thank you!

We do not believe that enforcing things will help a lot. It just raises a lot of questions:
what is racist? where does an offense start? when is a comment off topic? etc... A healthy community is by far better in handling those questions then we could ever be.
We only remove spam, and we sometimes write PMs to people.
The fact that we are discussing this here is actually already an achievement. Sometimes people get a bit lost behind their screens, and a gentle reminder is a better tool to get things back to a more moderate level then anything else.

I'm with the liberal approach part way.
Racism is generally covered by law though and i would have thought Ableton's potential liability in allowing it to occur, or any form of discrimination or harassment for that matter, might need tougher control.
But hey, if you can get adults to behave sensibly without the need for policing then it's one more string to the Ableton bow.

Maybe having a reporting system at the bottom of the post to prevent things like this, if someone is offended then report it to a moderator who can check and decide. Also do you not have a system that looks for swear words of racist words and can automatically remove that post. While we are all adults there is no need, it's not a reaction when typing it's a concious decision.

I personally dislike those "Report Abuse" buttons. It reminds me to STASI, the former east german secret police, where everyone was controlling everyone. Some folks from Ableton are always reading the forums, and you all know how to reach us in case things go totally wrong. Also, the problem is that it is really hard to judge sometimes what is irony, and to tell what really goes on. And our resources are limited. The Ableton people who read the forum do so to understand what the users think of the software, what their problems and needs are. The less time we spend with scrolling thru offensive nonsense, the more time we have for discussing more important topics...

B0unce, I just deleted these pictures you posted. That's absolutely insulting and disgusting, and has nothing to do here. Please, keep the violence out of here. Insulting in a thread that asks for better behaviour, how would we call that, but blind provocation?b0unce wrote:oh, and display the first three digits of everyone's IP address so faggots like Crash will stick to one nick.
I respond to the political posts on the board, btw. And expecting civility where american politics is on parade day after day is hoping for alot.
May I ask: what are you looking for? What's your goal here?
Regards,
Amaury
