I'd say so. The 64 has that cuteness factor, too. And the accelerometer.

great deal actually, used or new?

second hand those things go for over 1000 all the time since demand is so high and supply is so SLOW.

In light of all the financial doom I'm trying to figure out if i should save or spend. Heart says spend, budget says save.

I'd say def get the 6-foe. I'm pretty sure it will introduce a bunch of new ways of looking at computer based music. Even if you figure out that the monome is not for you you should definately be able to sell it and get what you paid for it. One thing I'll mention though is than the buttons on a 64 are darn small...

The pads aren't that small, don't let Mike deter you. If it were up to him, he'd have the buttons be this big:

are they smaller than the 128 and the 256? I know they are smaller than the original 40h.

the buttons on the 128 seem just about right, I would probably like it if they were just a hair bigger but I'm not suffering with the size.

the 64 is the same series as the 128 and 256 - naturally - and the button size is the same. BUT there's a lot of frame around the 64. The 128 seems a lot more compact, in a weird way... does that make sense? The percentage of the thing that is just frame is a lot higher on the 64.

For a fraction of the price you can build an arduinome. I'm actually going to try this in another month.

I put my name on the list about 9 months ago and haven't heard anything as of yet. Canny wait, though.

I put my name in January too and got my email last week....... I passed on it. I bet one of you fuckers got mine.

I'm really at a point where I already have so much music stuff I use about 10% of, at least based on working knowledge. I really don't think another purchase is going to make my music career. All last year I was feeling like a chick, all excited about an upcoming purchase and once I got it about a week later I was bored and NEEDED something else new. Enough already. People are losing their jobs and houses.

Wait, what were we talking about again?

i've been looking into this as well, it looks like a good option, and as you say far cheaper. the other advantage being that you can build it into whatever box/layout you fancy...

agreed, i have enough gear that i use. the monome is risking geting another piece i may not find space for. I may find it quite useful but i don't need it. the reason i purchased it was i've been on the waiting list for a long long time, and it has a really high resale value. so hopefully i haven't got much to lose.
