midi note on -> unmute track, note off -> mute track

Post by twitterytom » Fri Oct 10, 2008 6:01 pm

is there a way to do this?

e.g. i have a bunch of loops running and i want them all to be muted. each track should be unmutable when i press a key on my midi keyboard and when i let go it should mute again

i can't seem to get the moot vst to be controlled by midi. i'm laying it into a track after a midi instrument and the midi instrument seems to not pass the midi notes through to the vst plugin.

any ideas?

Try putting moot onto a separate channel, and routing the audio from the channel with the midi instrument into the moot channel...

bringing this oldish thread back up. i'm having some problems with that vst.

i found a solution using one extra track with a drum rack full of instances of operator.

each track that i want to mute with a midi note press has a gate that is sidechained to the operator in the drum rack. now when i press a note the operator emits a tone and the gate lets the sound through and when i let go the gate shuts down.
the track with the operator drum rack is muted of course.

just what i want but seems awfully complicated and cpu intensive for such a simple functionality.

cant you just put a utility on your track and map a key to that?

the problem is utility won't unmute while the note is held and unmute when its let go. i would have to press the note twice

if u can program your MIDI keyboard to have a note off velocity of anything above 0 (0 is default on all keyboards), you should be able to do this. Examp. note on vel 127, note off vel 127. I know at least on M-Audio keyboards you can do this.

even with a high off velocity the behaviour is still the same. i need to send another note-on to unmute
