30" TFT Display anyone ?
Is anyone of you guys using a 30" TFT Display ? Which one ? How about the Ableton Live Fonts and GUI Elements ? Aren't they too small ? Thanks for sharing your experiences !

one thing that you seem to be missing here is that it's not the size of the screen that determines the size of objects displayed on it. Nor is it technically the resolution of the display, but the *combination* of those two factors.
All in all that leads to a figure called the "pixel pitch", meaning the distance between each displayed pixel.
Compare, if you will, the 20" apple cinema screen - 0.258 mm pixel pitch (that is, there's roughly a quarter millimeter between them) with the 30" which has a pixel pitch of 0.250 mm.
The difference between the two are neglible, even though the 30" is 2560 x 1600 pixels.
A much more important factor is where your screen is *placed*. Some have a tendency to stick the bigger displays up on walls relatively far away. That will definitely make things harder to read.
I hope this helps a bit,
Andreas.

well yeah, armed with that info it should be really easy for you to find out the pixel pitch (or DPI would work too) of those products for easy comparison.esky wrote:Ok, maybe i should aks a little more detailed. I already use a 23" Apple display at 1920x1200 and i'm thinking about purchasing a 30" Samsung or LG or Dell Display to use it at 2560x 1600 resolution. So, any thoughts...?
Thank you...!
google would be your friend in that quest.

Hi esky,
i use Live on a 30" with 2560 x 1900 and have lots of fun with it. It takes a bit to get
used to all that space, but I never did regret going for a 30". If you are using Live +
VSts or Live + any other audio app at the same time you'll love the space....
The only drawback is not music related: it shows how poor my little digital camera
performs

i use this and i get a hardon whenever i use liveMachinate wrote:As an aside, I would consider going for one of the 28" models out there, like the viewsonic VX2835wm
- still enormous, but lower native resolution @ 1920*1200, which will give you a considerably larger Live environment for less squinting
oh yeah, that's right! Well then my comment can be simplified even more:sweetjesus wrote:i use this and i get a hardon whenever i use liveMachinate wrote:As an aside, I would consider going for one of the 28" models out there, like the viewsonic VX2835wm

Hey esky; get the viewsonic. SweeJesus uses it... ferfucksakes
I'm using a kind of pseudo 30" Monitor system with two 20" monitors in pivot mode for a resolution of 2400x1600. You can get one of such monitors used on ebay for under 150€ which makes this system really cheap in comparison to a real 30". Would love to have one of course!
