Best MIDI device to launch clips?

Post by ava » Sun Oct 19, 2008 6:37 pm

Im thinking of ways to launch clips using midi controller(s), must have midi-in so can have nice little lights telling you which clips are playing.

What's your ideas?

1 Monome. (128 or 256 lights)
2 Yamaha Tenori-On (256 lights)
3 Casio light up keyboard (61 lights)
4 Korg NanoKontrol? (18 lights) (9 knobs, 9 faders) (does it come with midi in?)

Any other ideas?

Lemur with 2.0 software.

If not, then Monome.

I am happy with a padKontrol using farmpad for the ilumination.
(thanks to doc h. at this point for all the farmpad help!)

I use the Faderfox LC2.

I have the encoders set to navigate around and then launch with a push. (I use MidiStroke to get the focus right etc). Works a treat. Mouseless....

Mine is in the mail system right now.

I ordered the Lv2 and hope it will arrive tomorrow. I've tested the Lc2 and works well with ableton

+1 for the farmpad + padkontrol duo, really groovy baby ;)
you can set more than 4 * 16 * 16 different pad assignations... so I guess more than 1920 clip lauchers, than can stay illuminated until the clip stops...

I would go for the Faderfox myself, if it didnt just had 6 button focus. Why not making it 8!?

faderfox LV2 has 12 buttons that can be switched between 6 modes... so that's 96 !!

BTW my live control set is padkontrol + fader fox LV2 , and tjis is REALLY supa supa great ;)

(only one wall wart for the macbook, padkontrol is energy fed by usb, and faderfoxies use standard batteries!)

lemur or monome are cool... but a lot $$$$ !

But its focused on having 6 in one row. Why not 8? That would be sooo much more usable, as more people use at least 8 tracks instead of 6?
I wouldn't think twice getting a LX2 if it was 8 in a row instead of 6.
