let's discus GUI lag in Live

Post by mr.ergonomics » Mon Oct 27, 2008 9:41 pm

hi, I really want to know how you feel about it. For me it's ok, but it's not "that nice" that the GUI feels really sluggish sometimes.. like when you have a low frame refresh rate.

I have a dualcore 3800+, 2 gb ram, nvidia gt6800 (256 mb ram) and thwo screens (24" for live and 17" for plugin windows) in dual monitoring mode.

Things I've noticed:

* the bigger your ableton live window is (800x600 vs 1920x1200) the more sluggish it feels.

* disable dual monitoring helps a bit.

* changing the desktop to 16 bit improves the responsiveness a lot!

* happens even with low cpu load

someone noticed this too?

nvidia gt6800 (256 mb ram) You should probably think about getting a better graphics card! If your still running on AGP I think you can get a better one online ...don't get any ati cards or maybe I had some bad luck with one earlier this year.

best regards,

256Mb video RAM is low.

once Ableton fixes ALL the AUDIO bugs then I'd be interested in video lag. Live puts video as a low priority, as it should.

it's low video ram compared to up tp date video cards, but ableton is 2d not 3d. I don't think this can be an issue. a uncompressed picture with 1920x1200x32 bit is only about ~9,2 mb big.

I'm more interested if more people have a sluggish GUI (with high resolution screens), I just want to know if this is an ableton issue or an issue from my system.

ok I have something new. I think it has something to do with nvidias dual-view. when I make a big desktop (dualview has two independent screens - a "big desktop" handles both monitors as one big screen) there is no or much much less lag. I will research further ...
