Washington, D.C. Ableton Users

Post by jcobb00 » Sun May 24, 2009 2:47 am

just wondering who in the d.c. metropolitan area uses ableton.

if you use it for liver performances, where do you play?

what kind of music do you listen to?

i am also looking for possible collaboration with people who have the same taste in music
i am currently listening to a lot of edIT, Pretty Lights, Ratatat, Daft Punk, etc. (in that order)

I used Ableton to play at Skylounge and Penang on M and 19th streets. I played everything from chill out and lounge to electro house. I am currently looking for a gig this summer because Penang lost their liqour license

i tried to form a DC live users' group this summer but nobody would come out to a meeting.
I would like to meet up with users.
my website is www.hibstar.com (but none of the music on it was done with Live). now I am doing music mainly with Live (dubstep, etc.) in realtime with a controller surface.

Northern VA/DC live user here. I've never played live. Just produce electro/progressive house music that no one ever hears :P . I'm up for anything.

There is some extensive Ableton threads and a few experienced users over on our Baltimore based electronic music board (BMORE/ELECTRO).

Feel free to join even if you're in the DC/NoVA area. We talk shop, have event info, meetup for beers, etc...

i use live and play out in dc...
playing black cat tomorrow, played with phantogram at dc9 a few weeks ago.
i hosted a series of 3 ableton shows at the cat a few years ago with a lot of artists, it was really great.
6-8 acts a night, no stopping, sets had to run together/ mix into each other....
this way folks had to collaborate, and things moved continuously throughout the night.
everyone came right from the forum,
would love to do something like that again.

Count me in also! We're beginning to get a quorum. Would anyone be interested in starting a SHARE night? It's not exactly the same as playing out in a club for the sweaty masses, but the night is a great way to keep in touch and hear what other people are doing and share yr shit with like-minded (and far flung) peeps. It's basically a free-for-all sonic and visual jam. A regular open
multimedia jam is how it's explained on the share site. Somebody rents a space and brings a mixer/patch bay and some speakers and anything goes for a few hours; just start filling the room with sound. I went to a few in NY when I lived there and there were all sorts of people. http://share.dj is the site. They're happening all over the world.

Just a thought. . . .

that sounds great, no overhead to worry about except having pa to play through.
now, the space is the issue, dc is just really bad as far as affordable space...

I'm wondering about something outside when the weather clears up some more.
There are these kind of pointless gazebo type things here and there that also have electricity run to them. There's one in Rockville city center, for example, and in some other suburbs, and I think I've seen some in VA 'burbs as well.

There's an Ableton course being offered as part of the Forward Festival.
