Why does moving clips (command X) make my Akai APC40 freeze?

Hey Ableton peeps! For some reason whenever I cut (command X) my clips to move them around, my Akai APC40 totally freezes...then I can't launch clips or use the bank select cursors anymore and some knobs don't work. However, if I close the session and re-open it, everything works again.
Is this some weird glitch?? Not sure if I should get a new midi controller (this one's a year and a half old) or if I'm somehow accidentally triggering something by hitting command X. Any insight would be helpful.
