Yeah, I float between Montreal and Ottawa. I maintain a home in each city.

I found Montreal a VERY difficult city to break into in terms of securing gigs. It's all who you know, not what you can do. I'm bitter towards that place in a few ways.

I love the Deps
I love the females
I love the music scene (to go dance)

I hate the smoking in bars / restos
I hate the language politics
I hate the music scene (to find a gig)

Go figure.

- smoking in bars will soon be forbidden
- le francais, c'est coule!
- for a city of this size, I think the Montreal scene rocks!!!

...Yeah, that is a good thing.

Oui, d'accord.

Again, my point wasn't that the music scene sucks - It's great for going out. The music scene is terrible to break into and try to establish yourself as a new performer. It's very clique oriented - if you're not "in" with the right crowds you'll never get a gig.

I haven't tried there... However, these days I live in Ottawa, (moved just recently) and it's really a positive enviroment for live electronic music performance. Wierd.

I'll try to get in touch with some folks at SAT and see what the deal is. Have you got a link?

Thanks for the advice!

By the way, Waverider, are you the fella I met in Montreal with the mega-Sherman filterbank?

Oh, I'm glad I found this! I moved to Montreal a year and a half ago, and I love it!!

I've been using Live now for a few months... funny thing is, I have nothing to do with DJ'ing or such, so I'm using it more as a traditional sequencer/DAW. I have to say, there are some things I miss, but it's working fine for my current needs.

Say, anyone here in favor of getting a Montreal users group going?
