does muting conserve cpu in live?

Post by rpc9943 » Mon Feb 09, 2009 5:53 am

hey... just wondering here... im migrating from tracktion and have just purchased live full 7 today.

i was playing with my little eee pc and have noticed the cpu levels dont go down when i mute... could just be the netbook, but just wondering - if mute doesnt conserve cpu, what does? freeze?

thank you

Either freeze or turn the instrument off.

Muting will not affect CPU - as suggested you could freeze the track (if it's midi and you don't want to tweak it), turn off any vst on the track or just stop the clip.

ahh so i have to click on the on off vst. im wondering why muting wont disable that, it could be set up to disable all cpu for the track. wouldnt that be a nice feature?

That's not really what mute is for TBH.

ahh ive got what you mean. you can mute say a delay / reverb, and it will still process it... i understand that.

sooo there isnt any way to cut off cpu on an entire track with a single click? that is kind of disheartening for me :)

its either click on every single device/vst to turn off, which is cumbersome, or wait the time it takes to freeze?

it is for Live use - it would be utterly impractical having it switch of every device when muting the trck

it would mean you couldn't reliably mute tracks and bring them back in in time with the music

right i understand now what im asking was not to mute then, now i am asking if its possible to disable an entire track with a single click.

thats all :)
