ableton 8 Third-Party Plugin Support not working

Post by spenza » Sat Apr 04, 2009 11:51 am

which means..
when i select configure and move sliders or knobs in the plugin. ableton doesnt add the parameter to the
panel.

doesnt work for Battery 3, Reaktor 5 and several other Freeware Plugins.

I am also not able to use my nocturn/automap midi controller anymore.
i am able to add parameters from the plugin to automap.. but when i change them during a recording in ableton, the moves
will not be recorded.

the live 7 plugin support was confusing sometimes.. but now its not working at all. pls bring back the old version. i can work with messy but working Plugin Support.

..same with the Virus Control Vst-Plugin, which means only a few (randomly) parameters are added in configure mode when I click/move the parameters at the VC-Plugin...

There's a trick for the unconfigurable external vst's

By waiting the abes to found soluce for these.

1. If and only IF the vst has settings accessible in ableton live 7.
Meaning you can view the accessible midi data for midi mapping fun

Then

2. mount the vst in a Live rack!

3. Save your rack

4. Open Ableton live 8.x.x

5. load your saved rack

6. magic all settings are midi mappable, it has kept everything, no need to configure.

Did not test all vst's but you can try, it will help you

I did this with Dblue_glitch1.3_ it was not configurable at all before 8.0.3 so no way for midi map!
one day, I loaded a little project done under live lite 7 and all was accessible.
I didn't realize it till I saw I was working on live 8. the vst was in a rack with a bunch of other stuff :P

Edit: don't forget to export your saved racks in the ableton 8 library for ease at use

Theres also an 'options.txt' switch...

I put -NoVstGesturesRequired in there... DBlueGlitch maps properly now.

DblueGlitch has mapped properly since 8.0.3 has come out.

With Battery, you need to use Battery's automation page first to assign parameter IDs to what you want to automate. Otherwise, Live has nothing to latch on to.

With Reaktor, make sure that:
1) the parameter's enabled for automation (last page of the button/knob/slider/what have you's properties)
2) your max ID in use is less than the max ID for the ensemble (last page of the instrument's properties). Using the sort and compress ID option helps.

Hi,

i highly recommend reading the last article in our VST and AU plugins section on our FAQs page. Have a look here:

http://www.ableton.com/pages/faq/vst_and_plugins

This hopefully clears things out.

best regards

Henrik
