Lots of weird issues after installing 8.0.4 update

Just got Live 8 today and after installing version 8.0 I installed the 8.0.4 update - then odd things started to happen....
1. For starters I expected the 8.0.4 update to self install over the original Live 8.0 folder in C:\Program Files\Ableton\Live 8.0, but instead the update created a new separate Live 8.0.4 folder and installed itself in there! Is that how it should install ??
2. Anyway, placed an 8.0.4 shortcut on the desktop and started it up. All seems fine so I start the lessons and worked through the Audio and Midi setups. All was fine until I get to the Creating Manual Mappings tutorial for controller setup. When I load the music files to do this tutorial the Status Bar reports "Media files are Missing". So I set the Auto Search going and it comes back with "No new candidates were found". A manual search doesn't find the files either !!
3. I then thought that maybe these missing sounds were on the other disk. So I install the EIC sampled instruments packages. They installed fine except for the Woodwinds file. I checked on here and find that file was corrupt so at least I have an answer for that one. Having installed the sample files I move the Library onto my external drive to preserve some space on the C:Drive - this goes fine.
4. On restarting 8.0.4 I then get the messages:
a) "Live has detected another ReWire master appication. No rewire slave applications will be available for use with Live unless you quit the current ReWire master application and restart Live"
b) "The online sharing functionality is disabled because more than one instance of Live is running"
What do these messages mean !? As far as I know I only have Live 8.0.4 open, no other program is open. I do have Cakewalk Project 5 on the PC, but that is not open and it has never been rewired with Live.
My PC is Win XP SP3, AMD 64 3700+ 2.4Ghz, 2 Gigs RAM, Gainward 7900GT graphics.
After an enjoyable first hour with the Live tutorials I am beginning to wonder whether this was a good purchase. Can anyone help with the above issues please ?
