I want to exit fullscreen mode i can't see the toolbar so i can't edit anything!!

F11 is to enter/exit full screen. If you don't have keyboard set to use the F-keys by default (and instead have it set to do things like open expose/dashboard/etc) then you'll have to hold down Fn+F11.

on new macs this just shows the desktop

you need to press fn+ctrl+F11

Regardless, abdelwahabm, it's F11 plus some combination of key modifiers that may or may not be applicable to your specific computer/OS combination.

tip: you can also exit full screen by pressing the little yellow arrow in the bottom-right corner:



(which is really difficult, if you have that corner mapped to Exposé like I do)
