Large Live 3 set in Live 4
Still experiencing lots of glitchiness and audio drop outs when opening a large Live 3 set in Live 4.
My Live set uses about 150 lines of clips in 11 tracks. Not all the scenes are full of clips.
When triggering a full scene is when I hear lots of glitches and drop outs.
I'm on a 1 ghz G4 titanium Powerbook running 10.3.5
using RME multiface.
I may have discovered a solution. By deleting a couple of sparse tracks and then redoing what clips were in there. I may be able to get this big set from Live 3 to work in Live 4 without having to rebuild from scratch.
Anyone else experience anything like this ?

same computer and RME. I get very loud audio burst and stuttering. My
session is over 300 scene with 13 stereo tracks...

I too made a huge Live set as my improvise/jam set...
It has 32 tracks and probably 100+ scenes.
Yup, H-U-G-E... 6.5 meg doc, sessions only..
BTW, maybe it's not recommended but 1/2 the clips are long files, more then a few minutes in length...
(1 reason for this approach is because one cannot create multiple '.asd' files for the same audio file in Live.. )
It crashes when I try to load it in ReWire slaved to Logic master mode
but works fine when I load it in 'normal audio engine' mode...
I need to run Live in ReWire mode when I'm in the studio.
FWIW, It was built over the last year & I believe it has some clips set to ram mode...
I think I'm gonna have to select each clip to see if it is ram enabled and turn them back to normal streaming mode and then see if it will load in ReWire slave mode... (Kind of wish there was a way to select multiple clips and change a setting in one that changes em all... maybe with the option key held when changing.)
Let's make this the bug post for HUGE Live doc problems till we figure out the problem...
Cheers

i also built my live this way, keeping it growing to 3mega and 800 mega sounds files which most of them are short clips.FWIW, It was built over the last year & I believe it has some clips set to ram mode...

i did that on a part of the set and it didn't change anything, i tried both things: putting all small clips to ram then none... i checked my ram usage it was ok (650 mega out of 1g). I don't use rewire though.
One thing i thought was that maybe the .asd files created in live3 were changed by live4 and then it got buggy playing them again in live3, or that the asd. files created by live3 were tricking live4 or something, but Ulf from Ableton told me they was slight chances that it was that...
i left my session at the office so they can try with different settings, cause i was really surprised that it would be a computer CPU issue, as i didn't ask much except audio flux, taking out all pluggins...

I have the same problem...audio drop outs and glitches on almost every scene.
I've been building my live for some time now and I made the mistake of saving my live 3 set as 4 not knowing all of these issues.
Now I can't revert to my live Live 3 format...unless I can find a solution I'll have to start building this set all over again....grrrr

I experienced a similar problem some weeks ago during one show. To add some more specific criteria and details:
- The Live set contains 122 scenes over 8 tracks
- The glitching occurs upon launching a scene both from the keyboard, MIDI, or by using a mouse
- The set in question does the same thing in all versions of Live 4
Things I have tried to rectify the problem unsuccessfully:
- Delete all VST plugins
- Delete all Ableton FX
- Rebuild the set and resave
Things that sort of seemed to help:
- I found that if I opened the set several hours before the show and left the computer running it played fine, which leads me to believe this maybe an issue with the analysis files.
- Writing the files used down on paper and building the same set on the fly caused no problems what so ever.

P.S. What's up Kooky, how's Beantown these days ?

Deadbeat,
I bet you might not have a enough ram...
or the samples start buffers are being swapped out to HD as part of OSX virtual memory when you don't use Live for awhile... By keeping it in play Live might be maintaining the ram buffers.
At least I noticed this, where if I leave Live with my huge set and use some other aps... then when I return t Live the FIRST time I plan things might stutter... but run fine the 2nd time used...

It may be related to ram load as it acts a bit like that for me too: Stutter
and cracks happens when i press a not yet loaded (ram or HD) clip then if
i play again this clip afterwards everything is ok, it does not stutter or
anything. This happens with the clips that have a .asd file created in live3.
I wrotte to Chrsitian Klein last week but i think he is still in the US for
promotion, so let's wait and see.
My other problem (huge audio burst) seems to cbe related with the RME
multiface sound card, as i don't get this problem with the internal one of
my powerbook.
Whaou lots of CA people in here nice work scott, the Crackhouse album is cool!!! give my best thoughts to Steve!!!

well, I tried this out.
Opened up the Live 3 set in Live 4.
Then saved it as self contained. I then went in to the folder and deleted all the .asd files because they were originally created in Live 3. Reopened the set now in Live 4 so it would create new .asd files for all the samples. I was hoping things would work better but instead performance was worse. There was a lot more glitching and drop outs. Not sure what is going on here.

PS. Hello, Deadbeat Scott. Nothing exciting going here in Boston besides the Red Sox/Yankees creeps and Halloween tourists here in Salem. It's cold here but I bet it's colder up in Montreal...brrrr.....
