From 2 to 4 GB of Ram. No difference. ???

Post by thefunktopus » Thu Jan 07, 2010 11:11 pm

Recently upgraded my ram because I was running too many tracks and effects for 2gb to handle. Thought the extra two gigs would help, but I don't see a difference. Thanks in advance.

macbook pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
5400 rpm hard drive
4gb 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

A faster drive might help running more tracks as well...

Any other macbookers out there with this problem? Is a 5200 rpm hard drive simply just not enough for FX intensive electronic music production? I upgraded to the macbook so that I would not have any problems like this.

I have always read that audio productions should be from 7200 rpm drives.

How many tracks are we talking about? What bit- and samplerate?

2 to 4 gave me the boost i needed... was runnin OKAY before... after, it takes a lot to freeze or crash, if at all... and that's running 2 Stylus RMX's, several Massive's, several audio and midi tracks, reverbs, etc...

I have a core 2 duo macbook, circa summer 2008

Not running mac, but I have 4 gigs in my laptop, but Live only uses 2 of it (which has been verified). I was basically told to deal with it.

regardless, it made a big difference - noticeable difference - for me.

I'm sure it would. Any background processes run on my other 2 gigs which means live gets my full 2 while everything else fights for the other 2.

In this particular session, there are 26 active tracks. 40 total. I run an average of about 4 or 5 fx per track at 16bit 44100 sample rate. I know I could clean it up a little bit and that would help... But I feel like it really shouldn't be a problem with my setup.

7200 rpm hard drive necessary?
