Masive CPU Overload
Hi,
I've been having CPU overload problems lately that are making Live unusable on my laptop. If I can recall correctly it started happening after I installed 8.1.3. This is happening on a Dell Inspiron 6400 running windows xp.
I started Live up and opened a project that had around 40 audio tracks with one-shot samples on it, only a few of them were actually being played. The audio runs smoothly for about five minutes (30-40%), but then the CPU usage begins to gradually go up. This happens slowly, and sometimes it gets up to 200% or more. At this point more than half of the audio clips aren't even played (they get skipped), everything starts lagging to the point where I can barely click on anything, and the interface becomes half frozen. Stopping the audio takes a couple of seconds too. When I stop playing the audio the cpu usage remains high at around 50, and the lagging stops. It's really frustrating and I don't know what to do
I also use another DAW (Reaper) and I haven't noticed this problem happen there.
Has anyone had this issue before and done something to resolve it? If someone could help me I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks

Everything is uptodate. Even the 8.1.4b still sucks!

Re: Masive CPU Overload
This is still happening to me and support can't even find what the problem is, I get cpu loads from just having a big rack in the set with no audio playing
Did anyone with the same problem figure out what's happening?

Re: Masive CPU Overload
Its a bug Ableton don't seem to care about or acknowledge.
Nobody seems to care about my acknowledge my thread on it either:

I mean what are you supposed to do when the CPU is spiking double when you're not even running anything.
I wish all the people suffering from this would join the same thread really.

Hi Rick,
Thanks!
Jörg
in order to investigate the problem it would be really helpful if you could send us the requested set containing the rack and Live devices only. This is still happening to me and support can't even find what the problem is
Thanks!

Re: Masive CPU Overload
Just wanted to update here...
As for right now, and I say this tentatively, its only been 10 minutes or so, the CPU overloading/spiking is not happening with various plug-ins running, this improvement does appear to be connected to me closing some of the tiny programs I sometimes have running alongside. So hopefully that's all there is to it, although it would be nice to think I could run Ableton to a modest CPU level and a few other very CPU-light things open too without those kind of extreme spikings, after all that's what I got a decent-spec computer for...
Although as of now its okay even with a few other apps alongside so that's cool for now... if there are more issues though, I'm sure to be back...

Re: Masive CPU Overload
Sorry about the delay getting it to you Jörg, the problematic set had rack that I was planning to release so I wanted to hold on to it until it was done. It's nearly finished now though so I've sent it to you. Thank you for your help, I do appreciate it.jok wrote:Hi Rick,
