out of memory error
out of memory error
whoa.
a mega crash i've never had before.
while adding a track, i got a "serious program error" that said "out of memory"
submitted bug report, but i want to know if there is something widely known about 8.1.4...something i should avoid doing.... before i bring this set onstage

Re: out of memory error
set has 6 tracks with no audio in them (i.e. looping on the fly)
3 of the tracks contain an Ableton Looper. i was about to add a 4th when the crash occurred.

Re: out of memory error
I see....
according to my activity monitor each instance of Looper eats up 64MB of RAM
so 4 instances = 256MB
and that's just sitting there with no audio running.
back to SooperLooper with me

Lots of talk on this topic taximouse-

May help you understand the current memory limit with Live and some way to work around it.

Re: out of memory error
actually, there wasn't much help on that thread.
the Ableton Looper plugin uses 64MB of RAM on its own. So if Live by itself runs at 320MB, and I need 6 loopers....I'm in trouble.

Re: out of memory error
thought i'd try again..
anyone know if 64mb per instance of Looper (with no audio in it) seems about normal?

Re: out of memory error
Hi Taximouse,
Live does indeed need roughly 64 MB per looper instance. Each looper keeps its audio buffer in RAM, regardless whether it is filled with silence or audio. Unfortunately, this means that you cannot use many loopers in one set because it quickly fills up your RAM.
Hope this information helps you.
Best wishes,
Tobias

Re: out of memory error
Confirming same problem here. 8.1.3.
This is a DJ set with about 500 imported/warped tracks. I have an effect rack on each channel that has three devices each, and a limiter on the master channel. Was doing fine, use it weekly, and after moving around some files (after collect all and save of course) I get the same error as original poster.
Model: MacBookPro5,5, BootROM MBP55.00AC.B03, 2 processors, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.53 GHz, 4 GB
Just confirming, I don't expect this to be fixed...have tried some of the methods mentioned on this and other threads and so far cannot get it to open, or even to audition any assets embedded in the .als w/o the same crash. At this point it is giving me the error, oh 2/5 of the time, other than that, just crash.

Re: out of memory error
I had this problem in the past but by the last full update it stopped. Ableton support told me about the Loopers taking up a certain amount of RAM. I think they even said it was 100MB each.
I've got 4GB RAM so it didn't make sense to me and support also said it should have worked fine since I wasn't running many other apps or even 3rd party plugs.
Now I use 7 Loopers and have no problems.
