Different Live issues (8.1.5)

Hello everyone. I'm having some issues with Live 8.1.5 running under Win7 x64.

First, I'm having some general stability issues with plugins that I did not have under WinXP x32. Things just seem more unstable, and Live is crashing rather frequently. One of the things that I've observed is that after Live crashes, the Live.EXE process is still in memory. I of course proceed to kill it using the Task Manager, but for some reason (I've never seen a process do this), the process will stay like that for a long time! (more than 5 minutes). I don't know why it's not dying immediately, but that's kinda disturbing.

My second issue is that, for some reason, Live is now unable to delete its own temp files. This started to happen after a rather bad OS crash. I had to cold-reboot my machine. When everything came back online, I started to get the following messages from Live every time after I close it down...

"Would you like to delete the temporary files in
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Ableton\Live Recordings\<temp project>\?"

If I answer "Delete", which is what I'd normally want, I get...

"For an unknown reason, Live could not delete the temporary files from
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Ableton\Live Recordings\<temp project>\"

I have to go then, find the folders, and delete everything. Why is now Live unable to do this? How can I fix it?

Thanks for any help with these issues!

I had similar issues under XP so upgraded to Windows 7 x 64. Been rock solid ever since. Not a single crash. I did have some audio glitches but I seemed to have solved them.

My problems with W7 related to the 086 folder which houses most programs since many that run on x64 are still 32bit (Ableton is one) and some like, Spectronics plugins house its files in the x64 folder, but its plug-in .dll must reside in the x86 folder. yep...you get the idea.

i.e make sure your plug-in's are in the right place (make sure those files needing to be in the (x86 folder are there)etc.
Until I understood what the (086) folder on the W7 drive was all about it was frustrating. Some app/plug-ings will need to be in the 086 folder and some, like Spectronics will be in the standard Programs folder but the plug-in dll for Spectronics will be in the 086 folder because Ableton is still a 32 bit program. ??? yep ...You get the idea.

After I realized what the x86 folder was all about I had to reinstall many apps and plugin but now that I have, everything works.

I guess I am more concerned about the "Can't delete temp files" problem (the plugins problem I was able to solve).
Has anyone else run into this? Thanks!
