Looper: Strange behavior

Post by Nailosity » Sat Dec 18, 2010 4:57 pm

I am having a lot of trouble with looper via MIDI.
I had started working on this but then stopped when I could not get it to work (no time to troubleshoot). But I finally spent a few hours on it already over the last 2 days.

Now, my mapped midi controller (and I've tried 2 - a control change and a note on) cause the looper to behave like this:

1 - tap starts looper recording
2 - If set to play: 2nd tap goes to overdub. If set to overdub then:
3 - after about 1 second, looper DROPS OUT OF OVERDUB (goes into play) - by itself - and if the loop is longer than 2 bars CUTS IT's LENGTH DOWN to 2 bars.
4 - any subsequent attempts to enter overdub mode a) don't add audio and b) drop out of overdub after approx 1 second.

This is VERY frustrating.

I will send a copy of this to tech support; have found no answers on the forum as of yet.

Thanks -

Hey Nailosity,

I had a similar problem and fixed it, helped someone else fix it too, sounds like the same so you may want to try. You're mapping the big multifunction button on Looper:

1. Enter midi map mode and map your pedal/button to the multifunction button.
2. Before exiting midi map mode, click the very bottom of the the screen and you'll see it change to offer a little drop down menu.
3. It's likely on "absolute," try changing this to any of the relative settings and see if that doesn't help. This worked for me when I was using a simple sustain pedal to operate it.
4. However, now that i'm using a Roland FC-300, I had to select the second "absolute" setting in the dropdown menu and that solved it. So you may have to experiment. Hope this helps man. You're not alone!

Hi Ian!

Thanks much for the response. I am also using the FC300 (killing pedal unit, BTW).
I noticed a similar response on another looper related thread and have tried setting the drop down menu (at the bottom) to a variety of settings, some which work, some which don't work at all.

What I've been trying to figure out is which works best: Controller messages or Note messages?
What I've found is: when using note messages a note off MUST follow a note on for it to behave correctly. How do you use your FC300?
I think the key to seamless efficient operation lies in the correct use of note/controller messages, and figuring out which ones LIVE prefers to see. i.e. I want to use one of the switches to turn "Reverse" on AND off (alternately). it ain't working yet.

(Also between work/family life, I just don't have time to sit for 4 hours and figure it out. I suspect I'm not the only one with this "problem". :D )

Anyway, thanks for the response. Will post info when I figure it out!
