APC40 as DJ MIXER
APC40 as DJ MIXER
HI there,
I have a curiosity, im trying to emulate my APC40 as a DJ mixer, it is turning out that this is quite easy to do but im having issues with one thing...
Does anybody know the precise frequencies that your average DJ mixer would control in terms of the Lo, Mid and Hi ?
Would appreciate some insight ! ;D
Thanks a bunch!

What I did is this; download the PDF manual from a mixer you want to emulate, say a Pioneer 2000 or something. Check the specs, they will list the center frequencies and the cut/boost amounts.
However, there's no consideration for bandwidth, so you'll just have to use your ears. Also, I suggest a 3rd party EQ plugin. I ran the APC40 as a 4-channel 3-band EQ with lots of FX and utility controls and it worked great (for a while until a fader died).
Hope that helps!

Thanks for the input, downloading the PDF was a great idea your right though, in the end its kind've a rely on your ear type of thing as they are not as in depth as i would like it to be.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

Re: APC40 as DJ MIXER
Ableton's EQ 3 device is set up like a DJ EQ, and has variable Lo and Hi positions. I imagine you ought to be adjusting those based on the material you're working with.
But of course, a standard "go-to" set of points is good to have too. If you find something, maybe post it in this thread?

Hoffman2k posted a rack on the hints & tips forum here: http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=54296 which does a beautiful job. I use this all the time (although I mapped my APC40 knobs so that they peak at 0db, since without a centre marker on the knobs it was impossible to know when when the EQ hit zero). I've always avoided the EQ 3 because of its quite coloured sound.
Re: APC40 as DJ MIXER
EQ3 adds colour to the sound even when set 'flat'
There are a couple of DJ EQ's created with the EQ8 in Tarekiths DJ effects for Live 8, one emulates an Allen & Heath Xone 62, I think the other may be an Ecler emulation, can't remember for sure. Some quality effects in there too!!!
And all for FREE!
Have fun
