How do I turn audio into midi?

Post by sjkuessel » Thu Mar 10, 2011 8:37 pm

I downloaded a vst WIDI to convert audio into midi. I can't seem to get it to work. What I'm trying to do is record some guitar. Then turn it into piano. I've got a midi vst that will turn any midi into piano. I need to convert the audio to midi though. Is there an easier way to do this? I know there are probibly some expensive programs for this but is there a free way? Anyone know how to get WIDI to work?

Buy a midi controller for your guitar.

I actually don't know anything about midi controllers. What would work best? How would it work?

You can right click on an audio clip and choose "Extract Groove(s)", then go to your groove pool and drag it in to a MIDI track, however this is only monophonic. it just picks up the transients of your audio clip. Although you could go over it after that and change the notes. Toontrack make something called 'Drum Tracker' I'm not sure how good it is, you could check it out and let me know :)
