MPK mini -- Macro issues

Post by jeeves.207 » Sun Sep 25, 2011 3:54 pm

I'm curious about how to get my MPK mini macros to auto-map (like they're supposed to)

If I'm not mistaken, the little 'hand icon' in the macro window means that the device is armed to be controlled with whatever is plugged in, correct?
So why do I have to map my knobs every time? Thereafter, limiting me to those previous parameters I set them to.

When I opened the box and plugged in my MPK mini, everything just worked (plug-and-play). I'm not sure what happened, but one day my knobs just stopped responding. The MIDI indicator light turned on in my Live screen when I turned them, but no actual control signal was processed. I combed the forum until I found a script
(Mothergarage - http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php? ... t=MPK+mini), and once installed the knobs worked again, but giving me the problem I have now. No auto-mapping.

Help me Obi Wan. You're my only hope!

Strange...I also have an MPK Mini. I think there are presets that handle auto map of Abletons instruments, as far as other devices such as racks and devices go. I have never known this to be default behavior of the MPK mini. Let me know if you get this figured out. With all due respect. I Honestly don't see it as being possible though. It would be nice to use the knobs for multiple devices instead of being locked into a couple of items then having to switch back and fourth between banks.

@jeeves.207-

The auto-map functionality isn't, well, automatic, for lack of a better word! Basically, Mothergarage's UserConfiguration script you reference needs to be installed in the correct spot, the MPK mini needs to be selected in Live's Control Surface dropdown menu and "Remote" needs to be turned on for the MPK in Live's MIDI menu. Plus, you need to make sure you're using the presets included with the script as well or things won't work as they are supposed to- to get the "blue-hand" instant mapping functionality you need to make sure the MPK is outputting the proper CCs on the proper channels that Ableton is expecting them on (as specified in the UserConfiguration.txt file) or it won't work as expected. That thread also has a ton of troubleshooting tips in it, so if you haven't gone through the whole thing you may want to, you'll probably find it helpful.

@towers of silence

Thanks a million! I thought it might have something to do with the script.
