I own both Live 8 and Cubase AI5.
I have some reasons to shift to using Cubase as my primary home studio DAW. I would still use Live for gigs.
One thing I really don't like about Cubase is the factory plugins, for both FX and instruments Live is far superior. I'm thinking about using Rewire to make Live's plugs available in Cubase.
I'd like to hear from anyone who has tried this. What's the pros and cons, how much of a CPU hit will I take, etc. If it matters I'm on a MacBook Pro.
Rewiring Live and Cubase---anyone with experience?
Re: Rewiring Live and Cubase---anyone with experience?
When using rewire to link two programs there is always a master and a slave.
The master controls tempo, playback, playback location etc.
The master always gets audio from the slave. There is no way to send audio from the master to the slave.
To use Live's devices/effects you would have to have your audio begin in Live, apply the device and rewire it into Cubase.
Now, if you want to use a Live instrument that's a different story. You just need to set up a midi channel to supply Live with midi notes and data and then create the rewire bus back into Cubase.
