Ableton cache folder - any way to stop it from rebuilding?

I use an external drive as my main audio drive, so I have the cache folder set to be on the external. If I'm out and about and I open Ableton and work on a new project it changes the cache folder to the internal drive.
The problem is that when I plug in the external Ableton deletes the old cache folder and rebuilds it from scratch, this takes about 30 minutes depending on the project (I have a massive LivePA & DJ session).
Is there any way to have Ableton keep the old cache file, so it won't have to rebuild? I'm thinking this may be a feature request. My current options seem to be either having the cache folder always set to internal or always having the external drive connected when Ableton runs.
the only workaround I can think of is using an older version of Ableton for mobile sessions, and the most recent version of Ableton only when the external is connected.
