Cracks and pops on Mac

Post by netchaiev » Wed Nov 02, 2005 12:28 am

and CPU says 45%!!!!
I just don't get it,I heard cracks , on 10 audio tracks w/ 4-5 Live plugs!
W/ Live 4 I was able to go at 70% before hearing some weird stuff.
I'm at 256samples.
So would it be the sample rate? My slow HD?(4200rpm)? Ext. Sound card???
Thanks guys.

in my case it's the m-audio card with live 5, not with live 4, or with the internal pb card on live 5!

we all have similar set-ups
but i'm using no less than a 512 buffer and a firewiree 800 external (LaCie).

things get dodgy around 70-80%. at that point i start freezing tracks or sending them to RAM,

just ordered a PC laptop btw.

hi.

i have the same problem.
using the ozonic, 512 buffer
the first record i take with voice is nice, but the secon third etc are AWFUL!
clicks, noise etc...
but is that right?
M-audio and live are working nice together? thats not right!!
maybe on pc, but not on mac

its a must, to buy multiple computers to just make music?
sorry, i dont think.

Is there another solution, than buy a new PC?

greets jkob

Hi there.

I have the same problem with an M-Audio FireWire 410 card.
Just checked out the same tracks on a PC laptop Pentium III 500Mhz...
and it works better than on my G4 !

live 5 does not work as good as verson 4. I'm using layla 24 card and version 4 no problem. version 5, cracking and stuttering with buffer set to 1024!!!

please help us ableton. I pray that a solution comes up. Many people have this problem.. It must be the Live software. Hey, users with this problem . email support at abelton. support@ableton.com . this is quite important... I've spent money on a new echo audio card thinking that my card went bad and it works the same! actually spent days tweaking my computer with no avail. :?

I have the same problem. I e-mailed M-Audio, and they claim it's a problem with 10.4.3, and they're working on new drivers. I disagree, as I was having the same problem with 10.4.2, and PC users are having issues, too.

I'm moving over to Yamaha mLAN... I can't take the chance of clicks/pops/no audio, or Firewire getting trashed by M-Audio.

Well... I don't want to be negative but
I tested the same tracks on my old version of Live 4.
I'm running on Mac OS X.3.9, and have the same issue !
even more with the M-audio FireWire 410 card than with my internal card.

Lots of clicks and pops here as well!!!!
I temporarily "fixed" the problem by changing the bit rate of Live and my USB duo from 24 to 16 bit... can't say why but it worked...
never had this before... can it be 10.4.3? :?

The Ableton support team replied to me by mail.
Ableton Support wrote:are you using audio tracks and the "complex" warp mode? This one needs up to ten times more cpu performance compared to the other warp modes.

I am sure it is something to do with the program maybe the sample rate conversion is causing the glitches.
I am also positive it isnt our systems, if thats the case how come we only experience the problem in live and not other music packages.
This is not supposed to be happening.
I have spoken to support and I advise anybody who is having the problem to email them so they can gather information about what is causing the problem.
I am not going to buy a new laptop either (Its alright for some I guess)

yes, It's not my system. (windows xp, 3ghz cpu , 1 gig ram, echo layla soundcard) I have plenty of cpu available. I run at 20 to 40% cpu and clicks and pops are heard on tracks that were even written with Live 4.

I would go back to version 4 but I need to freeze tracks!

I expect this situation will be solved sooner or later...
