A way to send clock when stopped? Live 5

Post by dtm » Mon May 22, 2006 4:01 am

Sorry if somebody has covered this before, but I haven't got time to search all the forums. Been reading up on the international midi specs, as I've been having trouble syncing my tb303 and Machinedrum to live (5.02).
Usually with hardware, clock is always being sent. When you hit play all slave units will 'cue' playing until the next midi clock 'beat' comes along. I know it is 'virtually instantaneous' but the problem I'm having is caused by Live not sending clock while a session is 'stopped'. With gear that you can leave on, say, 140 bpm this is fine because when you hit play, the slaves 'catch up' to the sync signal quite quickly. However, with the din sync converter I use, and the machinedrum OS I'm currently running, its possible that the clock is trying to instantly catch up from zero bpm to 140 bpm when you hit play-start. Its causing mayhem with any delays on effect units further down the chain too.
Is there a way to have Ableton send a clock sync signal constantly, ie- even when stopped, like the midi standard states? It seems older gear is prone to timing issues when it gets the clock signal 'after' start, because the bpm is determined by an 'average' of the last few midi 'beats' it has received.
