Switching from PPC to Intel

Post by LoopyFIN » Tue Nov 28, 2006 9:08 am

Hi Guys,

My brand new Core2Duo MacBook arrived yesterday. I transferred all my excisting data from my old trustworthy G4 iBook via firewire cable.

Everything transferred as it should, my Safari bookmarks were as they should, files where they were earlier and so on. But Live refused to work.

Now I'm running my bought Live at version 5.2 - DEMO MODE!!

I think the problems is because of transferring PPC program to Intel based computer.

I want to upgrade to Live 6 as soon as possible, but now it seems like my Live 5.2 isn't "verified" at all. I already sent email to Ableton, but there's no reply yet.

Has anyone come across something like this before?

Live 6.0.1

u will need to $$$ for intel upgrade to 5.2 or just get 6...
also the copy protection would probably be void once u move it to another machine.

currently, u will most likely be running live in rosetta mode which stinks. both the intel live 5.2 and 6 are universal binary... also ur plugins need to be UB.

I'm aware that Live 5.2 is Universal Binary, though I wasn't aware that I have to pay to get Live 5.2 Universal Binary version. That sucks, because I bouhgt Live 5 when 5.2. was already released.

My plugins (Stylus rmx & FM8) are Univeral Binaries, so those shouldn't be a issue.

But Do I have to reinstall 5.0. and run it via Rosetta and after that buy a upgrade to Live 6? I did plan to buy Live 6 as soon as I get my MacBook, but when this problem occurred, It made me a bit cautious of this situation.

Btw. I ran Live 5 performance test on demomode (and apparently rosetta). ca. 34% CPU.
That should go lower with 5.2. and even lower when running both processors on Live6 :D

I'm not 100 % sure but in this case, the UB serial number could be free. I would contact the Abes.

Okay, I checked my User Account on ableton.com and there's my Live 5's serial listed in "my Products".

Can I now safely purchase the Live 6 downloadable upgrade?

Update:

Problem solved. I had the serial of my Live 5 on different user account.

I got the 99€ upgrade bought, and Live 6.0.1 is good to go.

Thanks for support :)
