I encountered these errors and problems or discrepancies after
installing Live 6.0.9. I had Live 6.0.7 as my previous install.
I did not install any of the Live Betas after 6.0.7.
I also have EIC, Sampler and Operator (and Windows XP).
I documented what I did to handle these conditions. Standard
Windows disclaimer: If you change the registry, make sure you
know what you are doing, and back it up beforehand. The paths
shown below are partial paths in my Library - yours may be different,
but the location should be easy to find.
There are these types of conditions reported here:
1) Unused files and samples added by the install
2) Strange, unnecessary files added by the install
3) Windows registry errors after the install

After install, run manage Library. These files are reported unused:
\Ableton\Library\Lessons\Samples
0003 8-Audio.aif
0004 7-Audio.aif
0010 8-theme.aif
Drumloop.wav
Gretsch(Bb)Rm.wav
Gretsch(Db)Dr.wav
HH3 cl-08.wav
Lud Dry-1.wav
PingRide_p-01.wav
Remo DryU47_m.wav
rhodes-1.aif
shaker-1.aif
Try it Yourself.wav <- actually is an AIFF file
I renamed 'Try it Yourself.wav' to 'Try it Yourself.aif' and
placed these in a Live set called 'Unused Lesson Samples.als" so that my
Library contains no unused samples.

Windows registry errors:
Live installs a "Live 6.0.9.Document", this is a typo based on these registry errors
reported after the install:
The file extension, ".asd" refers to an invalid program identifier, "Live 6.0.9 Document."
The file extension, ".als" refers to an invalid program identifier, "Live 6.0.9 Document."
The file extension, ".alp" refers to an invalid program identifier, "Live 6.0.9 Document."
The file extension, ".alc" refers to an invalid program identifier, "Live 6.0.9 Document."
The file extension, ".adv" refers to an invalid program identifier, "Live 6.0.9 Document."
The file extension, ".adg" refers to an invalid program identifier, "Live 6.0.9 Document."
There is also a missing registry entry for ".ams" files

I made this Windows Registry change to fix the above errors:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Live 6.0.9 Document\shell\open\command]
@="C:\\Program Files\\Ableton\\Live 6.0.9\\Program\\Live 6.0.9.exe \"%1\""
(added quotes around %1 to be safe; also, changed key name)
________________________________________________
This is the registry setting I use for ".ams" files:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ams]
@="Live 6.0.9 Document"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ams\DefaultIcon]
@="C:\\Program Files\\Ableton\\Live 6.0.9\\Resources\\Icons\\generic.ico,0"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ams\Shell]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ams\Shell\open]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ams\Shell\open\command]
@="C:\\Program Files\\Ableton\\Live 6.0.9\\Program\\Live 6.0.9.exe \"%1\""
Minor problems after installing Live 6.0.9
Hi arachnaut,
I can confirm the points 1 and 2.
Point 1 is currently by design and Point is a bug in the Package itself we will fix with the next version of Basics.alp Package.
But I did not understand Point 3.
When and how did you get these registry error like:
The file extension, ".asd" refers to an invalid program identifier, "Live 6.0.9 Document."
When double clicking on an Ableton file? (like a .als for example)
Regards,
/Alex
