mac pro upgrade hanging weirdness

Have just upgraded from an imac g5 to a mac pro (8 core!!!) it's so unbelievably more powerful, like night and day
however,
I have been having all sorts of weird problems, loading directly from the finder causes huge hangs on 7.0.3 i have to force quit from
also the same songs when loaded from the live window load quick as a whip, and play fine however sometimes when stopping, they will pause, but the play arrow stays lit and again they just freeze.
no idea what's happening here, anyone else experience this? or know what and why this is happening for?
