[amo] 8b03: Hidden CPU load?
I noticed the fan of my MacBook starts blowing when Live 8 is just standing with an almost empty session and that the Mac GUI gets slow (e.g. on Dock pop-up), but the Activity Monitor doesn't show any load (90% idle). Strange......
No, I only hear the fan starting when running Live 7 when I tax the cpu (when the load % in the right upper corner of the screen gets higher) or when e.g. bouncing to disk.
For example: I loaded a session with 3 Operators that stands still (load 2%) and after
a while the blower starts...
Odd is that the Activity Monitor shows 30% usage but Live shows only 10%. Could it be there are a lot of context switches that cause cpu load but are not accounted for? Quiting Live brings back the load to 4% (in top) and fan stops again.

Im still having the same issue on beta version n 8:
compared to Live 7, on my macbook with OS 10.5.6, live beta seems to drain quite the same amount of cpu, while looking at istat pro the system indicates the computer is somehow working much harder and the temperatures get higher

Re: [amo] 8b03: Hidden CPU load?
I also am experiencing this on b16 OSX 10.4.11, 2GHz Macbook. (No problem with Live 7).
Live 8 runs perfectly fine though, nice and smooth, so I guess it probably is the beta debug stuff running.

Hi,
How is it with 8.0.1, for those of you who installed it?

Feels better so far, just installed 8.01. Will post here if it feels slower as 'normal'.

Re: [amo] 8b03: Hidden CPU load?
Last night I saw something on my PC (Windows XP) that may be related...
On several occasions I saw that audio output became slow and broken (as if every other buffer of output was silent or a repeat of the previous buffer).
It reminded me of the time when I worked as developer for cakewalk's project 5 the same was reported because of the way I was handling CPU load above a preset maximum (by issuing Sleep(0) to prevent the GUI from becoming unresponsive)
The problem was that I see this behavior in live 8.0.1 when CPU load is not that high....reaching about 50% on each of my 2 cores, and only a handful of plugins that I know should not be very CPU demanding. CPU load reported on the live meter is about 50% as well. Live 7 handles this session without any problem.
Another issue I observed was that if I switch the "audio buffer size" setting the audio engine in live would lock up (maybe a deadlock?) and I could still close the preferences window but live needed to be killed and restarted for audio to work again.
I do not remember having this issue with my Echo Indigo sound card, so it *may* be somehow related to the buffer sizes required by my novation X station keyboard with built in audio IO. This keyboard and audio IO works fine in live 7. I can put a bit more time to get a more detailed report if this is helpful.
Thanks and congrats on a brilliant product overall!

Re: [amo] 8b03: Hidden CPU load?
same here. Fans run at maximum speed with only 14 % CPU load
Live 8.01 Macbook pro, 2.16 GHz, 3 GB RAM, OS X 10.5.6
This is completely different from the behavior Live 7 shows

Hi guys,
I moved this very old thread. If you have more comments/experiences using the latest OSX/Live combination, please contact support.
