Instrument rack chain selector: don't filter notes

Post by maciejsawicki » Sun Jan 21, 2018 10:45 am

Currently chain selector always filters notes. In result it is impossible to play with long notes and have a control over fades, because fades always start at the beginning and the end of the zone.

As you can see there is no way to completely silent one zone.

I noticed this when I tried to improve the strings section samples and map them to a controller to allow expressive legato transitions. The strings are samples over several velocities and I wanted to crossfade between those samples (by default only the velocity swaps the samples).

The topic was also discussed here with a clever workaround

I figured out another workaround.
I can achieve my goal by adding an audio effect rack inside each instrument in the intrument rack.
If I have 4 instruments in an instrument rack, I need 4 audio effects rack with a single "Utility" effect.
In each of the audio effects rack I can setup zones. Then I can map each chain selector of specific audio effect rack to one macro controller.

Disadantage: the controller is less responsive, because it needs to move 4 dials at a time.

TIP:
You also assign the same macro to "Gain" parameter in the "Utility" in this rach and use the Min and Max in the macro mapping option to add more smoothness to the fades.
