Zoom Waveform

please make it possible to zoom in waveform in clips in arrangement view without changing clip gain. just like Pro Tools and Reaper and probably a bunch of other DAWs have. sometimes you literally have to edit the clip completely blind.

I assume you mean vertically. I think it's the way it is so that you can determine how loud the next material coming up is. Why exactly do you want to zoom it?

Zoom the waveform is useful if you need to edit the audio but don't want to change the gain. In other DAWs I use it for slicing up drum breaks easily, or trying to match the transients in audio on two different tracks. Right now I just crank up the gain of clips in Live if I need to see the waveform more clearly, but I could definitely see wanting a less destructive way (in terms of gain staging) of doing this too.

Have you tried resizing Clip view to the full height of the screen?

I never understand why this and scroll wheel value editing are not implemented.

For dialogue editing I find this vital. Only people who have not had this, think it's not important.

It enables you to see audio on multiple tracks even if it's recorded at a low volume. It's also great for tuning fade outs and looking for clicks.

When you question things in Live, you need to first ask yourself how it would affect live performance which is still the program's main focus. In this case, it might be more important for the performer to know the relative volume of something before they start playing it, and not make a mistake because the waveform is zoomed. I'd be shocked if they ever implemented it for the reason just stated.

But how will you perform your performance, if you can't chop samples at zero point, instead of the middle of the waveform?

When I launch "something", most likely the volume of it was already ajusted multiple times by the moment when I need it play it somewhere. Subjectively for me this is not important, to check clips volume during performance. But chopping is important, because when it doesn't click in Ableton it clicks much noticeable in Octatrack.

+1 this is such an important feature and it wouldn´t affect the live performance because you zoom in all the waveforms simultaneously so the relation between the tracks stay the same. It´s just more easy to see.

Maybe record louder to begin with. I don’t personally care, nor do I have issues chopping. Just trying to explain what Ableton’s thinking might be. It would be nice if they would explain their reasoning. For whatever reason they just don’t feel the need to engage.

+1 on that!

Definitely a feature I'd use a lot if it was implemented!

The request is something else.
It is the zoom of the audio waveforms, not the clips.

+1 would like to able to vertically zoom the content of an audio waveform, without needing to vertically resize the container itself.
