Ordinary copy/paste
Ordinary copy/paste
Cope/paste in Live (I'm PC) does not use the system clip board, it seems.
Copying a text outside live, I can't paste it to into the name field of a clip.
Using the system clipboard should make it possible to copy/paste clips between instances of Live, as well (I think applications can deliver a format flag to a clipboard).

That's my point. Between two instances the copy/paste has to travel via the system clipboard. Live don't want it from there.
Between to songs in the same Live instance, Live handles it by itself, it seems.
Same as for text. Selected text in a clps "name" may be copied and pasted to another, but you can not copy text from an text editor and paste it into a clip's name field. That goes via the system again.
All this may depend on Livge being a cross platform application but it's being done all the time in other programs (I am part of building an XMl Client for PC and Linux/Unix and the copy/paste works between system and application on both OS.)

Re: Ordinary copy/paste
i also had that issue today and found a solution as I was trying to export slices of large file into multiple mp3's already renamed in the session and wanted to print names on individual mp3's
I found out that if you do:
cmd+R (rename)
cmd+C
cmd+TAB (switch app to opened blank textedit doc)
cmd+V (paste once in textedit doc)
cmd+TAB (go back to live)
shift+cmd+R (export)
Now you get a destination window open, with highlighted wrong name. You can't use a shortcut at this point and have to right click the name and scroll down to Paste
enter... repeat...
amazing that Live can't handle some simple things protools does so easily, like select multiple clips in timeline and rename automatically individual files accordingly, along with many silly things like that.

Re: Ordinary copy/paste
This problem still persists today Live 10 Mac osx
For example you want to copy the name of a clip (cmd R - select - cmd C) then you export, when choosing a hard disk location and a file name you will not be able to paste the copied element as the file name.
