Disable Delay Compensation for Silent Tracks

Post by _E » Sun Jan 29, 2023 9:51 pm

A high latency track with no outputs should not cause delay compensation on other tracks.

Image

This track is
  • Deactivated
  • Sends Only with all sends disabled
  • Not used as the input to any other track
  • Not used as a sidechain effect in any other track
  • At -inf dB track volume
  • Without any External Audio Effects
yet, any delay on this track will still be compensated for. If I put 100 ms worth of effects on this track, everything will be delayed by 100 ms even though this track isn't outputting anything.

You can get around this a bit by setting the track delay to 1000 ms, but this feels like something that should be automatic.

Use case:
I want to use a 6 ms Limiter on my exports, but I don't want an additional 6 ms of delay during playback and recording, and I don't want to remember to enable/disable effects before export. My workaround so far is to use a separate Export track with no outputs.
