(guitar style) LOOPING!

(Only a guitar player would have thought of this... ok maybe?)

What I mean is not just the type of looping that Live already excels at, but more specifically, something such as live on-the-fly guitar (or another instrument) looping a la Robert Fripp, etc., there are machines that do this such as Boss RC-20, Electrix Repeater, etc. (see here http://www.loopersdelight.com/tools/tools.html.)

Basically what we would need would be some kind of midi/usb pedal to trigger recording (surely this exists already?) Then a feature by which the recording could be activated, stopped, and automatically triggered easily with this footpedal. The main problem I see is that once a track is armed, whatever clip you then record to that track must be either dragged to another track, or that recording track must be disarmed. Then, however, if you want to layer the loops you'd have to drag each to a different track.

It would be easy to do this with an assistant: one person operates Live while the other plays. But what about setting this up so one person could do it?

Is this already possible? Anyone?

What about a level sensing auto record setting. As soon as Live hears a sound over a certain dB level, it begins to record audio, either indefinitely or for a certain number of measures. Then Live begins to play the loop automatically.

Cheers,
Atom

There is no overdub audio record so you will not get Fripp style looping.

However Os at Expert Sleepers put out a wonderful $20 AU called 'Augustus Loop' go try it out will do what you are desireing. Very cool and well worth the price of admission !
