meter plugin with K-System implementation

Post by mlehmann » Wed Apr 08, 2009 1:08 pm

It would be great to have access to a metering plugin with different implementations including K-System, VU, PPM, etc. Or better yet, have the possibility to have differents meters options in the session view. (scale, ballistics, etc)

I'm going to re-bump this one because of the importance of metering. ITB recording and mixing suffers greatly just because metering is not properly implemented in most DAWs. Users tend to record signals as close to 0 as possible, therefore leaving no headroom for anything. The problem is that 0 in Live is actually 0dbFS, which can be around +24dbVU!! Live needs to be able to switch metering to VU readings, while allowing the user to calibrate the VU scale to whatever his converters are handling (-12, -18, 24, etc).
Until something like this is implemented, users will continue to deliver projects that sound bad just because they're cooking everything to the max in there...

Exactly. Propellerhead implemented VU metering in Record and it's a joy to mix with it.
