record live input through effects?

Post by eamoon » Mon Aug 05, 2002 6:19 pm

It would be extremely handy to be able to record the output of effects (VST/pluggo stuff in our case) on an input channel. Is this feasible? Currently we've had to resort to adding a "record to file" button to our pluggo toys and manually loading those files, which is rather un-Live-like (it's a bit to complicated to get my head around while performing.)

My apologies if this has already been discussed... cheers,

recording live input with fx...

Post by andreas » Tue Aug 06, 2002 2:31 pm

u can do this by not recording on the input track directly, but
on another track that records live master out... of course
u need multi outs on your card to NOT record certain other tracks that
play (by routing them to another out...)

hope thats clear...maybe u thought about this already and just dont
have multi outs??

anyway, would be nice if we could set up alt. busses to record inside live...
(also when only one stereo out is available...)

This is an important one, and hopefully will be addressed soon.

I think very often you want to record through FX, especially when recording in a live situation.

well, i do anyway. I run out of CPU!

Also, it allows you to 'record FX automation" in a live context.

Right now, I cant see a way to have that automation data associated and looping with a clip.

Using 'loop' mode isn't the same.

May ableton bring this soon as a mini-update!!

:-D

I know obviously the main problem will then be the 'double FX' problem, unless you suddenly put that signal through the same channel dry.

Maybe ableton is waitig for their implementation of this dual channel channel. One which allows live monitoring and clip playback at the same time on the same channel.
