I think they could take groove quantize to a new level in LIVE...

i.e. Make it possible to control the strength of the groove template for each clip as well as quantize between groove templates in real-time.

That would be killer!

Absolutely!

The information is already there, in how far each warp marker has to be moved to straighten the groove, except reversed.

To steal a groove from a track you'd first have to warp the track so it's completely straight, the information of how far and in which direction the warp markers have moved could then be used to generate a groove template that could be used for midi, or to apply to other warp markers.

Release the original warp markers of the straightened track and you have a midi template that grooves perfectly with the original audio.

I can't see much reason why this couldn't be possible, but then I'm not a programmer.

I was really surprised to see this was not a part of the Live 5 release since they went through all the trouble of including "Auto Warp". Maybe they just ran out of time.

Extract groove templates from MIDI clips. For Live 5.1?
Extract groove templates from Audio. For Live 5.2?

Please don't make us wait until Live 6 for this... I've even been opening Cubase SX again and finding that I can make a lot tighter tracks with that prog. C'mon guys!

We need GROOVE TEMPLATE CAPTURE AND GROOVE QUANTIZATION! And Iterative quantize, so you can control the ammount applied!

It can be so simple - but EFFECTIVE !

A button with Swing on/off
A knob with Swing% (0-100) for a midi track.

I use this always in reason, and this is really FUNKY !

You'll be happy to know that you can already do this in Live...

What many of us are asking for is an even greater depth to groove - where you can analyze a drum loop or midi file, extract the timing variations, and then apply that to other, non-grooved audio.

The swing is very mathematic - every 16th note is delayed by X ammount for instance - what Groove template extraction does is allow way more human feels, and allows you to match your other audio to your funky drummer sample.

Believe me, a simple swing button is cool, but once you start extracting grooves from some real high end drummers, you're on a whole new level!!!
