Mixer Mode

..IMO..The biggest thing holding me back in live is mixing..
Yes Live is a 'Live' app.. but it is still classed as a DAW yes? then I beleive live needs better mixing layout.. We have a sequence Mode, arrange mode.. but no mixing mode? ..
Well ok u can kind of mix in arrange, with sends etc.. but really.. if I am sequencing a track, and want to mix (in arrange mode) their is ALOT of window space mssing that could be put to better use.

I have attached a quick design for a mixer mode.. ofcourse if this ever gets implemented, i dont expect it to be exactly like this.. but if live had this design's layout, i would be happy as larry.

Skin color still optional ofcourse.. this is about the design.

If you vote 'No'..Pls explain why you wouldnt want this feature?

Basically you would want to have the effects instead of the clips in session view.
why not, I say.
but the problem for me is that you can´t resize all sections of a track in session view, only the fader section. the sends, routing & clip sections can´t be resized. if this could be done, you could minimize the clips away and see all 8 sends if you need them.

Well, yes, but the Session view could be improved in this sense. I like certain aspects of the suggestion, but these could be achieved by just improving the current view. For example, it should be possible to hide the clips. When one is beyond the phase in song production that the Session view is no longer needed (in the current project), it should be possible to hide the clips. And hopefully use the space some otherwise.

I don't particularly long after the traditional mixer view, but the thing in the suggestion that is good is that the space is used better for needs of mixing situation instead of just letting the useless clip-view (again, in a project where they have served their purpose and are no longer needed - not in general!) hog the space. For example the mixer faders could be made way higher, but it just stops currently.

no. just no.
for me when working in arrangement i want as much screen estate as possible to be used by my tracks. i tend to have alot of tracks at the same time and they all have many many MANY edits so beeing able to see them all zoomed in (for detailed waveform displays) is a must, especially since i rarely rely on the grid any more. pressing tab gets me to the mixer, im fine with that.
i wouldnt mind having the option to customise the sessionview mixer better though, such as beeing able to hide the clips and make the faders longer for more precise action and whatnots, indeed.

or to actually hide track groups completely instead of just beeing able to group them. all to save space for the mixing process.(you hear that ableton? let us assign a selection of tracks to a track folder, then let us tell live whether or not we want it to hog up the space or not. if its just a bus that we wont touch it makes no sense whatsoever to have it hogging up space, now is there?)

i wouldnt mind beeing able to have a floating mixer window that detaches completely from the sessionview though, (also solves the idea of hiding the clips in the no-longer-used sessionview once you have your arrangement down) this would also be great for multimonitor useage.

definetely yes!!! would be cool to have a third mode (mixer mode) where you see more parameters at once (for example to compare with other tracks' parameters).
at least it would be cool to have real faders and not that little triangle which is quite hard to hit when working faster.

ha. I posted about this same thing exactly a little while ago and then just saw this one.

I know Ableton is aimed at live purposes and probably have no intentions on using as a studio daw. (or maybe they do, idk) But...

I would love to have a way to delete the clips on a track. Never use them. Ever. I hate seeing them and they just waste track space that you could be putting a way to access plug ins for example. I find you can delete some of the clips but not all of them for some reason. Oh and, dual monitor support is way overdue.
