transform samples

Post by polymer » Sun Jan 10, 2010 9:52 am

I would like the feature that was on my EMU ESI32/4000 sampler which is Transform/Multiply to be in LIVE I can't get anything similar in Live7 or in AU/VST's. Some samples used to take 8 hours to process but I got some cool results.
Live would be perfect to combine 2 samplea and create a new sample from the common frequencies used by both. It sounds similar to granular processing but unique.

Also my old ESI had a 3D DSP that you could create a user path of pan and distance around the user to create unusual spatial effects.
I used to get 2 completely different samples the same length and combine them to create a totally new sound imagine this in Live it would be so useful

Sounds like a job for an instrument, or plugin, or Max.
I know you can design or download/hack a reaktor ensemble
to do this.
I'm sure you can do this with Max also.
(I might be wrong about Max, haven't gotten deep into it YET).
But this is definitely something a plugin would do, either instrument or effect.

This is from the ESI 4000 EMU sampler
Is granular or spectral similar to this I don't know.

"Transform Multiply
This unique function merges two sounds together in a way that
accentuates frequencies common to both sounds while discarding
uncommon frequencies. Because of this characteristic, Transform Multi-
plication tends to work best with sounds that are harmonically rich.
Using this function is easy. Just pick two sounds and multiply! Although
you have to wait to hear the results, Transform Multiplication can
produce many strange and beautiful textures unattainable by any other
means. The length of the resulting sample will be equal to that of the
current sample. "
? Tip: Transform Multiplication can take
quite a bit of time with longer samples.
Begin your experiments with short samples
or even sample attacks as these will give
good initial results.

hmmm,

try N.I.'s Kontakt 4.it has something called AET filter, which can morph between spectral characteristics of different samples.
i created some very interesting things with it at my best friend's studio.

best,
