Stop (ab)using forums for feature requests, use better tools

I mean, I suggest to use better tools, such as Wiki, Google Docs or dedicated Feature Request Databases, or Crowd Sourcing Apps...

Here is my own list, and maybe you can setup something like that too.

Well... Ableton should provide a better tool. Then again they probably have their own internal database or spreadsheet where they keep track of feature requests. It think that's their job not ours. They implemented this 'wishlist' forum for a reason.

The whole feature request process of input-gather-sift-analyze-prioritize-implement-discard etc is still very human. Even if everyone here had a neat looking Excel sheet, it would take some work for the Ableton support group/team to go through every single request. It may actually be harder to compile all the requests from spreadsheets that are not in their control. It would be easier for them to search the forum for "mp3 export," "better MIDI," or "please give us better automation curves, snap automation points to grid, and the ability to enter values to automation points," and see how many people actually support those requests...

Anyway, sorry for the rant.

Also with the current format people are able to explain why and how the request would help Live be a better product and why people would be able to benefit from it. One is able to express arguments and premises that support a conclusion, and by arguing the statements, one may have a better chance to convince the Abes that the request is a good and sound one.

One could also inject a little of emotion in that request; one can let the team know how frustrated he or she may be about the lack or inefficiency of a feature.

Of course the Internet provides the facilities to establish dedicated Feature Request databases that cover all your requirements. It's really a question of investing some of the money into customer relationship.
