Currently when one previews a MIDI clip in the file browser, the MIDI clips play back with a short sine wave tone ("MidiPreHear.aif") as the instrument.
In many instances, especially drums, this preview sound is useless.
It is important for me to preview MIDI files with a GM kit (or other appropriate sound.)

May be an integration of a small GM set ?
There are free ones and very small (some MB only)
Most GM midi files integrate the right program number, so it will auto select the right sound

How right you are !
This sound makes the feature really unusable for me.
Couldn't Live use OSX's integrated GM set ? I suppose there's one inside Windows too...
Anyway, anything to make realistic MIDI sound clips would be much appreciated.

It's 2013, is this solved yet, I must preview using a piano, string ensemble, bass guitar or drum kit tones.cabletone wrote:Currently when one previews a MIDI clip in the file browser, the MIDI clips play back with a short sine wave tone ("MidiPreHear.aif") as the instrument.

+1 Bump! Further, it'd be super helpful if the midi file preview can play the sounds based on the instrument loaded on whatever midi track is currently selected.

+1 Bump. Really need an easier way to set the MIDI Preview sound - right now the default is this incredibly "clicky" sounding sine wave.
