Personally a dedicated HARDWARE Ableton player ( CPU+DISPLAY+CONTROL SURFACE ) would be the dream ticket, although these days its questionable whether to wait for a refined truly Multi-Touch Display version or to use some hardware controller/control surface.
The problem with all control surfaces ( apart from Mackie HUIs and their expensive derivatives ) is that the track names and the SESSION clip names arent
displayed. Were reliant on guessing/memorising which of the many coloured buttons is our desired one.
This is why i favour a multi-touch approach. But maybe incorporating HW faders and some knobs.
NEKO comes close but look ugly weigh and cost a ton and have scant support here in Europe.

Sounds pricey and inflexible... Not convinced.

plus my “ideal one” would have the ability to have its internal cpu/dsp power boosted by just plugging it into a laptop or something when needed.
Often DJs freeze everything MIDI down into audio clips ( or stems ) which lessens the CPU workload significantly

Hasn't this already been done before.
